What is DHEA and what does it do?

DHEA, short for dehydroepiandrosterone, is a pro-hormone that is naturally produced by the body primarily in the adrenal glands. DHEA is responsible for the production and regulation of other hormones our bodies make including androgens in men and estrogens in women. Your body’s production of DHEA peaks in your mid-twenties and from mid-life on, production declines, affecting your body’s ability to produce the other important hormones made from DHEA.

Supplementing the DHEA in your body can help support and restore the hormone levels you produced in your younger years. While there is no such thing as the fountain of youth, research has shown DHEA supplementation to be helpful in addressing a number of areas of health.* In addition to hormonal support, studies have shown DHEA to help increase energy and libido, improve mental clarity and other cognitive functions, promote more restful sleep patterns, and provide an overall sense of well-being.* Supplemental DHEA may also provide benefits for your heart, joints and bones.*
